Banking Details & Preventing Hidden Fees

International bank transfers often carry hidden correspondent fees. Banks frequently route overseas wire transfers through intermediary institutions (e.g., in the US or Europe). These routing agents usually deduct an extra $25 to $45 per transactionbefore the funds reach Africa, separate from your own bank's initial wire fee.

To ensure your booking remains secure, please note our core financial terms:

  • Cover All Fees: The total invoice amount must arrive in our account completely intact. You must explicitly instruct your bank to clear all sending and intermediary bank charges from your side.

  • Multi-Currency Routing: We accept electronic funds transfers (EFT) in Zambian Kwacha (ZMW), US Dollars (USD), Paying into the matching currency account is often the cheapest way to bypass steep conversion fees.

  • Transfer Responsibility:Chimbwete Trails bears no liability for funds directed to an incorrect account. Always verify our official banking coordinates prior to authorizing your transfer.

➡️ IMPORTANT BANKING & CASH ADVICE FOR MFUWE

📌 Strict US Dollar (USD) Rules

  • Issue Date Limit: Due to local forgery protections, US Dollar bills printed before 2010 are not accepted anywhere in Zambia.
  • Note Condition: Zambian banks completely reject damaged currency. Ensure your USD bills are entirely crisp, clean, unblemished, and free of ink stains or tears.

📌 Local Mfuwe ATM Locations

  • Zanaco Bank ATMs: You can find reliable Zanaco ATMs at the Mfuwe Airport and at the only fuel/filling station in Mfuwe town. Both machines accept Visa and Mastercard.
  • Power Outages: While airport and main town ATMs are generally dependable, local electricity cuts can occasionally take them offline temporarily.
  • Tinta Restaurant ATM: The machine located here is frequently out of order. If it is down, kindly check inside the restaurant with management, as they can sometimes process cash for you internally.

📌 Over-the-Counter Bank Backups

  • Teller Services: If ATMs are down, you can withdraw cash from your credit card or exchange physical currency directly with a bank teller.
  • Operating Hours: Local bank branches are open on weekdays from 09:00 to 15:00 hrs.
  • Higher Costs: Please note that over-the-counter transactions and manual exchanges are significantly more expensive than using an ATM due to higher bank commission fees.

📌 Daily Spending & Card Security

  • Kwacha Cash Priority: Most local village businesses, market stalls, and small restaurants only accept Zambian Kwacha cash. We strongly recommend drawing Kwacha at the Lusaka Airport ATMs immediately upon arrival.
  • Bank Travel Notices: Kindly remember to notify your home bank that you are traveling to Zambia. International banks will routinely block debit and credit cards if they detect sudden overseas activity without prior notice.
